We strongly recommend that our clients consider investing in pet insurance!
HOW DOES PET INSURANCE WORK?
Pet insurance is a health insurance policy for your pet that pays for medical expenses and sometimes other costs. Pet insurance plans are typically reimbursement-based, meaning you pay up-front for the pet’s vet bills and submit a claim to the insurance company. A few companies can pay the vet directly, which helps keep your out-of-pocket payments low.

There’s usually a deductible before coverage starts. For example, you might pay the first $500 in vet bills before the pet insurance starts to pay. Even after your deductible is paid, the pet insurance may not pay 100% of vet bills. You can typically choose your reimbursement level. Common reimbursement options are 70%, 80% or 90% of your vet bills.
ABOUT
Dr. Lagoa
I was practically born in a whelping box. My journey through the field of veterinary medicine has been marked by a deep love for animals, for the medical sciences and respect for nature. I believe in compassionate, state of the art, yet objective veterinary care. After obtaining my DVM degree and working as a practitioner for a couple years, I developed a strong affinity for emergency and critical care medicine, which led me to transition into a research role at top human medical schools, where I worked in collaboration with internationally recognized human surgeons, emergency and critical care physicians. My time in cutting-edge areas of human medicine developed in me a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of human and animal health in addition to the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the scientific and therapeutic aspects of the medical sciences.

Later, upon returning to the veterinary field, I focused predominantly on small animal emergency and critical care and worked alongside outstanding board-certified veterinary specialists. As my journey progressed, I continued to broaden my scope of veterinary care, including general practice, wellness/preventative medicine, canine reproduction and behavior. As a result, I have developed extensive skills in delivering a broad scope of interventions to veterinary patients.
Currently, the primary obstacle for pet owners seeking vet care is financial; however, financial barriers are only one problem. Transport and location also pose a challenge for pet owners seeking veterinary assistance for their pets – particularly in Alaska. As such, my goal in establishing Chugach Animal Clinic was manyfold: (1) to simplify the business model to keep prices affordable. This means having low overhead costs; (2) to offer compassionate care without pushing for unnecessary procedures and treatments. Good quality veterinary care doesn’t need to be astronomically expensive; (3) we believe in honesty and seek to provide the best care a client can possibly afford for their pets without any judgment; finally, (4) it is our hope to provide much-needed, superior quality emergency services for all pet owners of the Kenai Peninsula. Frequently, emergency patients require immediate care. Under such conditions, the drive to Anchorage is not only a long one but can be impossible under inclement winter conditions. Furthermore, driving to Anchorage for emergency pet treatment does not necessarily mean that your pet will be immediately seen. As such, if your pet is facing an emergency, please give us a call. We’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Thanks for considering Chugach Animal Clinic for your pet’s veterinary care! We would be honored to be part of your “furry family”. Call us for appointments.
